This Veterans Day, we proudly honor Captain Don Parsons, owner of Parsons Marina and Mystic Belle River Cruises in Vermilion, Ohio. A true hometown hero whose life and legacy are deeply tied to our community’s nautical and civic history.

An enlisted U.S. Coast Guard veteran, Captain Parsons served aboard the CGC Campbell and at the Rockaway Beach Station in New York, where he was recognized for his skill, leadership, and dedication to service. After returning home in 1962, he helped shape Vermilion’s waterfront, transforming his family’s fishing roots into Parsons Marina. After obtaining his 100GT Masters Credentials, he later launched the Mystic Belle River Cruises, sharing his lifelong love of the lake and river with generations of locals and visitors alike.

Captain Parsons has been a steadfast supporter of the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce for decades, giving back to the community through his membership and countless contributions to local events. He also served Vermilion as a volunteer firefighter for 42 years, protecting and serving the community he loves.

This past summer, he was honored as a Pillar of Our Community during the 59th Annual Festival of the Fish (2025), a well-deserved recognition for a man whose contributions to Vermilion run as deep as the waters he has navigated.

Parsons Marina and Mystic Belle River Cruises provide professional and safe services for all boating and river experiences. Their trained staff have over 100 years of collective experience to ensure safe and enjoyable time on the water. Services include maintenance, upkeep, cleaning, and winterization. Parsons Marina offers storage options for boats and other personal items, with key amenities designed to support life on the lake and river.

Mystic Belle River Cruises provides opportunities for a relaxing afternoon with family, a sunset cruise, or private events and work outings, accommodating a variety of recreational and special needs.

To those who know him best, Captain Parsons is affectionately called “The Admiral,” a nickname that reflects the respect and admiration Vermilion has for him.
